York, New location of the House of Lords ?
I just read in the British press that Boris Johnson is considering relocating the House of Lords to the north of England, with York as the main candidate.
The Sunday Times reports:
"If York is chosen as the Lords' new home, it will be the first time the city has been a center of political power since the English Civil War, when it played host to the Council of the North ...... The move would be considered as part of a wider constitutional review, which will also look at the role of the Supreme Court and the Lord Chancellor "
Conservative Party chairman James Cleverly confirmed the plan was being considering in Downing Street after reports emerged that the prime minister had ordered officials to look into the practicalities of shifting the Lords outside of London.
After reading this post, I immediately started looking for a suitable place in my archive and found in Clifford's Tower, the keep of York Castle, a nice suitable location after this castle has been thoroughly renovated and upgraded. A beautiful location that fully fits in with the rich British traditions and heritage.
As usual, three photos that this time give an overview of this possible new home of the House of Lords.

Hello Rob,
I didn't here of these plans to move the lords out of London, but Trump has practically moved the presidency to Mar-a-Lago, so why not. This would be a terrific place, where the lords could look down on the people from top of the green hill. It's a stunning photo, and so are those in the WS. You are almost too generous, handing out additional photos that would have done perfectly as main uploads.
Best regards,
Gert

Hallo Rob,

Hello Rob,
York has always been an important place in England so I can remember being really disappointed that this was the only part of York Castle still remaining but, in York there is a wealth of other historical features to discover.
All your photographs are of the highest quality, showing the tower, the interior of the tower and the amazing view of the city from the battlements. You could be working very effectively as a tourist guide!
I wonder if this bold decision will come to fruition.
Maybe he just wants to keep 'The Lords' far away from decision making.
We, in the North, do feel to have received much less attention in infrastructure and capital investment for many years. Maybe the Lords will begin to understand the unreliability of the train service and the poor road repairs, if they are situated up here!
Thanks for these shots, I have really enjoyed them,
Bev :-)

Goedeiddag Lars,
Zeker goed foto werk, bedankt.
Nog een prettige zondag,

Hi Rob
The sky adds a bit drama to the angle of view capping the imposing tower on the hill. Amazing after all these centuries it is still standing.... Nice capture and its history, must be quite a view from the top! Excellent shot

Hello Rob, you are right up to date with your picture and title today. I only read about this news about an hour ago!
York is a delightful place, one of my favourites.
Cliffords Tower is quite unique, beautifully preserved on the top of its hill.
The shot ‘ The new House of Lords Chamber’ is superb, so much to enjoy from this particular point of view.
Excellent work.
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

Hello Rob, Strange idea to move the House of Lords to York.
A good picture of this castle of York on the hills. Maybe, I find the Workshop pictures more interesting.
It reminds me that when I was the first time in York, I somehow lost a few hundred pictures :(.
Excellent symmetry here.
Kind regards MAlgo

Hallo Rob, that castle and the tower made in stone are centuries years old. They should be fascinating to explore. The workshop shows the view from inside and the panorama on York. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello, Rob!
Interesting and beautiful house built on top of the hill, and the POV is perfect to show that! I like the symmetry of the image broken only by the leaves on the right side, and the sky is also beautiful with these clouds! Wonderful composition!

Hoi Rob,

Hi Rob.
it is certainly difficult to make this structure interesting. I took so many of its photos and I was never satisfied.
I see you went for minimalist capture. The geometry is the strength here.
The sun was hidden behind the clouds, but the central symmetry resulted in an eye pleasing effect.
I have to re-visit York, just waiting for good weather days...
Have a nice weekend,

Hello Rob,
This tower built upon a mound, as much as it offer a unique sight - it has a worth mentioning date in its history: The 1190 The Massacre of the Jews.
The York Jewish community take refuge in the tower from a mob. Unable to escape, they commit mass suicide, and the wooden tower is set on fire. Survivors are killed. (Quoted from this web-site: https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/cliffords-tower-york/). Thanafter a stone-tower was erected.
Should be noted that Massacres back in that era were common throughout England and Scotland, most remembered was the Glen-Coe massacre during the 13th century.
Nevertheless, York is a wonderful town with lot's of attractions.
My best regards,
Ike
