Photographer's Note
ROMANCING BUMBLE BEES.......
"In the Spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love." Yes, indeed, Alfred Lord Tennyson may well have penned those famous romantic words, but imagine my profound horror when I came across this romantic couple in OUR garden this afternoon!
Thankfully they didn't appear at all distracted by my presence - and didn't seem to be in too much of a hurry either. So I had plenty time to fetch my camera and my macro lens and take a few shots, even if I did feel like a prying paparazzo at the time. Then, after a few minutes, they flew off together.
I believe, from their brown/ginger colouration, that these bumble bees were of the species "Bombus Pascuorum" or "Common Carder Bee" which are quite common in the U.K. But experts might know better.
ISO 3200, 1/80 sc at f/10, focal length 100mm.

Hi John
The only bumble bee that I've ever seen was in Tasmania, the only part of Australia that they were introduced to, let alone seeing this performance. A great macro capture.
cheers

Hello John, What is going on? Ryszard was also an indiscreet paparazzi. marvellous picture of these romancing bumble bees. why should you be in horror seeing them in the garden? Bumble bees are much less aggressive than other types of bees and will only try to sting if they are threatened or if their nest is threatened. Bumble bee stings are generally not dangerous.
Fantastic colours and sharpness. Marvellous composition.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello John,
You should have watched these not with horror, but with joy. At least some creatures see no need for social distancing. And they provided you with such an excellent photo opportunity. You had ample time to manage a perfectly sharp and well exposed photo, and with such fine colours. A cute couple seated on a pink flower with a green background. It's really beautiful.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello john,
This is a fascinating photograph and, I suspect, a scene which is not observed that often! I always thought bees mated in flight but ... obviously not!
This is definitely a case of the birds and the bees, though obviously just bees!!
Your photograph is so close, so sharp, it is amazing! The textural details of both queen and drone are almost palpable! And how sweet, that they have chosen a pretty pink bed for their nuptials.
I was surprised to see the very high ISO. Was light low because the colours look great?
This is a real success, well done,
Bev :-)

Hello John, in the large version the details are as you say even better, every hair on their bodies is so sharp and clear. The gloss on some of their legs etc., catches the light too.
You made the most of the opportunity to get this wonderful picture.
Everything about it is delightful.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello John,
A wonderful detailed picture of this bees, if love couple
I see also in Belgium the same bees
I've much flowers in my garden that lures bees.
Your 100mm lens on threepod is simple unic, or a 85 mm portrait lens are sometimes better, I've better result.
Nice composition and presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hello John,
Amazing macro photo of these two bumble bees on the purple flower. Their fluffy fur looks great with wonderful yellow and orange colours and even the tiniest hairs on their legs can be seen clearly. The blurry green makes a great backdrop. Really well done.

Hi John
This photo really is a close up, in more than one way... ;-) Not only a paparazzi, but I suspect you paid them for posing on such a convenient background - wonderfully blurred greens complete with a contrasting pink (how suitably romantic!) flower. :-D
Ok, jokes aside, this is a wonderful nature shot, one we rarely see on TE as they've all seem to have been relegated to Trek Nature. The composition, sharpness and details (ok, I don't mean it THAT way...) all make for a great image.
I really do hope you are going to send it to some kind of competition, like BWPA.
Best wishes
Kasia
Ps. I'm adding it to my favs of course.

Hi john,
One of the most impressive macro shots I have seen here. You had to get quite close and use small aperture to get this result. So they really didn't care about your presence! Superb colours too.

Hello John,
If you are so absorbed in the game of love, you obviously do not pay attention to a photographer who wants to take pictures of it.
If he puts them on the Internet then that is of course different cook, at least if it were a photo of people.
Fortunately, these bumblebees have no knowledge of that.
Excellent quality for this macro image.
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Hi John,
You didn't give them any privacy...
What a great close up photograph!
We can admire details of the insects. Their well saturated colors are nicely set against the purple flower and green background.
Great light, fantastic outcome.

Hi John
what's going on here? haha
I have to admit, I don't know much about Macro lenses, I've never used one. I've always thought Macro lenses were use upclose and personal, to get amazing fine details - like the shots we see of the eyes of spiders and flies...but your macro is 100mm, so you're quite far away then? confusing. great shot obviously, with the blurred out bg and fine colors. wonderful subject. easy to see why you'd post this
cheers
