Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
This is Norwich's open air market.
You access it from the far end of the Royal Arcade.
The outdoor market consists of around 200 stalls and is in the central part of Norwich. It was founded in the latter part of the 11th century to supply Norman merchants and settlers moving to the area following the Norman conquest of England.
As one of the largest and oldest open-air markets in the country, its rich heritage and traditional appearance was really pleasing
There were stalls with a fantastic range of goods and services; clothes, children’s toys, jewellery, household goods, flowers, keys cut or shoes mended, the market has it all!
Stalls also sold a delicious range of quality local food including meat and fish, freshly baked bread, jam, chutneys plus a wide range of cheeses, as well as hot, cooked meals. Many students seemed to be buying their lunch, when we were there, and then moving to the library steps to consume their meal!
To make the market safe during the pandemic a one way system had been installed and people were requested to wear face masks, though as in any country, not everyone obeyed the rule!
I have shown this view first as it just shows how 'outdoor" the market is, surrounding the city trees!
I will show two other views, one revealing the market as one emerges from the arcade and another looking down on the triangular-shaped roofs.
Have a good day, Bev :-)

Hello Beverley,
I love open markets like this, it reminds me a day we saw such a market in Edinburgh, Stockbridge quarter.
Admittedly, I do not see many outdoors markets in Israel, maybe the weather is not enable such sights.
Marvelous taken the two photos, attractive colors and action, the old arch on the WS added good sense of depth to the scene.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hi Bev, I just love markets. There is quite an art to displaying food as well as this. I like foreign markets but this Norwich one could equal those.

Beverley, i like market photos. A wide range of local produce are sold here. I recognize potatoes, carrots, apples, corn. The customers are overwhelmed by all one's choices. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello Beverley,
Good catch of this outdoor street market selling fresh produce. Excellent sharpness & probably cheaper and fresher than the big supermarket chains too. Tfs!

Hello Bev,
All these fruits and vegetables displayed under the big tree make me think of open air markets much further south than Norwich. By showing us this market from three directions you give us a good idea of its location. The angles are well chosen and as usual the photos are all carefully composed, no snapshots taken at random.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Bev,
The presence of the person is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the vegetables and fruits stalls. The light is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Hello Bev,
We get a lovely view on the open air market.
On Saturday are also in Flemish Belgium open air markets, almost always through farmers with own products, out of the area.
Lovely moment to make a picture
Sharpness and clarity are perfect.
Very well done, TFS.
Kindest regards,
John.

Ciao Bev.Your post is very useful to understand how many wore the mask. In the 2nd WS there are many people but no one takes them, and perhaps now the consequences of this happy summer are being paid. A visit to the local market is always a pleasant thing, the WS is very beautiful with the colors of the awnings and a fruit and vegetable stall always attractive with its colors could not be missing.Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Beverley,
If I have understood correctly, this is not an annual fair but a market that takes place on a very regular basis, for example weekly.
Or is this market perhaps even open daily?
The care for the roofs of the outdoor stalls is striking. As a result, I think these market stalls are a permanent thing or were built for a very special event such as an annual fair.
A very colorful affair.
It looks pretty festive.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Beverley,
This outdoor market has got a really impressive and long history! I wonder how many years that beautiful old tree has been a part of it as well. The many vegetables look very attractive and add many fine colours to the foreground.

Dear Beverley,
Now I regret that I have never visited Norwich! Never mind, once the current nightmare is over I will pack my thing and go! Looks like quite a place to take interesting photos, just like your photo.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hi Bev,
I see we are writing comments at the same time of day recently.
Fantastic scene from the market. So often people show those exotic markets with colorful spices and then I always think, why don't I show something local.
This is a great one here with the fruit and veggies so elegantly displayed, The make fantastic repeated motifs and are so varied and colorful.
Excellent capture, I have to explore this subject more myself,

Nice view of the vegetable and fruits under the impressive old maple tree. The vegs look quite like the one sold in the market near my home. But we have loser prizes.

Hi Bev
I thought they put it outside due to the Corona virus, but in the XIth century, they were not aware of this disease! Good goods presentation and the seller is waiting for customers.
Summer time..
Cheers
