South of the main town Kirkwall are a group of small islands linked to the mainland by causeways or bridges.
This series of photos gives you a look at the more rural parts, starting with the main one with an abandoned cottage with its roof covered in bright lichen.
The next one shows sheep grazing beside the water and the final one shows a beach and interesting uplifted rock layers.
