Photographer's Note
Another shot of Ullswater in the Lake District, this one converted to B&W. It is the second largest lake and 7.5 miles long. According to Jack Johanson, Ull could mean: Ulf (ulv) (wolf) or Ull (wool). I used neat image and contrast masking.

A good BW with the strong contrast between fore- and background. The layers of mouintains increase the depth feeling. Very good.

This works very well in black and white. All the tones are present, from the black rocks to the white in the clouds. The composition is very good. Well done!
(And yes, congrats on your win in the World Cup yesterday. Although, being a South African, I don't like to be reminded about the rugby too much nowadays... :-))

I find this to be a wonderfull B&W composition. I like how the montains seem to dissapear in the fog and the stilness of the water. Very nicely done.

There is softness to your picture but details are still visible. It is this softness and play of light that give it the ethereal mood that makes this composition so appealing. Very, very well done, Martin.

Just TOO lovely, and I can believe there may be wolves here! I think you have the full tonal range here from Ansel Adams. Congrats!!!

Excellent shot. A 'lake' of tranquility. Great use of b/w. I like the touches of sunlight on the rocks in the foreground. Well captured.

Purity and clarity are the first two words that come to my mind when I look at this image! Purity of the light, clarity of the reflections...
The wide tonal range was perfect for a black and white conversion.
The white lining of the clouds, and the black rocks and tree silhouettes are superbly contrasted against the subtle gradation of grey tones.
The tree in the foreground heightens the feeling of depth.
There is almost a Japanese character in the delicacy of the lines and outlines of this landscape.
Superb quality of the light filtered through the mist.
To make the composition perfect in my eyes (nit-picking time! LOL), I would clone out the little bit of branch overhanging the clouds at the top, the tiny black triangle in the top right corner, and the little black shape to the right of the big boulder in the bottom left corner.
A splendid landscape, with a stunning presentation.

I'm not a great fan of B&W, but this one is really outstanding. Composition, framing, tones... really fantastic!

Amazingly peaceful stillness captured here. The dark stones really set the base for the elements above them.

Your composition is excellent and the technique of the gradations of the grey is good. The peace of the lake, the réflection, the border created by branches, clouds, simply magnificent. Great shot!

Great shot!
the reflections, with the B&W that makes all the view to be different shades of gray, the clouds, all together comes to one briliant picture!
great!

Very nice. The sky is exposed better here than the one with the small boy. Both are quite nice, but I prefer this one.

Love:
- the Light on the stones
- The reflections on the water,
- the light on the clouds
- The different and smooth tones of the moutains
- The litle fog at the end
The contrast between the stones,Trees and the rest is magic.
Congratulations on this photo.

Congratulations, Martin. This picture is really beautiful, the mountains refletcing in the water is amazing. I also like the B&W effect. It's superb!

Your range of tones is just right and I particularly like the cloud contrasts. As an expat Lake District enthusiast I certainly enjoyed the view! My only suggestion is that the water is so still that the rocks are a little unreal. I would have been tempted to toss a small stone in the water a couple of seconds before shooting to get a few small ripples in the foreground.

Another stunning image! Fantastic scenery and a wonderful effect in black and white. The position of the tree to the right, silhouetted against this backdrop is perfect, as are the stones in the water. The water is magnificently still and peaceful, though with the clouds overhead, perhaps the calm efore the storm? Just beautiful!
