Photographer's Note
This is the Mill cottage with its mill wheel which is in Miller's Wood mentioned in yesterday's post. (sounds like "The House that Jack Built" :o)) I have unsuccessfully tried to find information on the place and when the wheel was last used. The house appears to be occupied, but there was no-one there at the time. It could be a holiday cottage.
I had two shots to choose from but went for this one as I prefered the composition. I have put the other shot in the WS as it shows more information. The foreground in both images is white with frost. On this one you can just see the drop of the land on the right where the sluice is, and the top of the sluice gate. This was so, when the sluice gate was open, water from the river was diverted to activate the wheel. The WS also shows the River Esk as well as a better view of the sluice and gate.

Really nice photo I like the frost in the foreground, it is a shame that there is not a nice fire going in the cottage so you could have a bit of smoke coming out.

I really like this; beautifully soft tones. I would be tempted to remove or recolor the fence round the edge of the garden; it seems to draw the eye.

This is very pretty. I love the frost-covered grass in the foreground and the hint of sunlight on the trees in the background.

Hi Kath.
I like this one even more than the others.
The composition is good and you make a wonderful frame with the trees.
Also the light is great, and the place looks very nice. The sharpness is good too.
Well seen and very well captured.
Regards.

This is very rustic and definitely feels like winter. You are obviously preparing us for the cold weather this weekend. The effect of the frost is good, and going by the size of the bricks the cottage looks extremely old indeed. This looks almost like a historic document.
Cheers

Hello Kath,
this picture really invites to have a walk there. It's so beautiful ! I would give it 9,9 points, but the other one in the WS I would give 10 ! In the other one I see more nature, some water... that's my personnal meaning of course. Anyway, thanks for these great shots. Keep them posting, please...
best regards,
Luc.

oh kasia, this is great! it looka like an illustration to one of harry potter's stories: old fashione style, bit mystic place, moody moment captured; all of this makes for a great picture;
best wishes, jerzy

Hi Kath, You have done a great job to capture the raging water. A nice contrast of the autumn warm colors in the forest with the dark cold colored water. Good framing and well made use of the lights. Well done.

Hello Kath,
I like the contrast between the light in the leaves and the frost in the grass. The composition is well seen !
I don't know why, but this photo seems to me typically English.
Bravo,
Nicole

I love the mood of these frosty mornings, Kath. Your view is very nice, with the house and wheel at right. Really nice textures in the frosty ground, too!

Hi Kath. It's great how the frost covered grass mimics a flowing river. After looking at the WS I definitely prefer this one. I think it's got better visual flow and has more beauty for the eye. Nice idea to include the branches at the top. Very nice work here Kath!!

Hi Kath,
A well comoosed shot which appears taken on a frosty morning. I like the POV here, with the swathe of grass framing the mill itself. Good clarity as to the mill structure. The mill is nicely balanced by the autumnal trees. This shot works very well, Kath. I like the exposure level too. Well done.

Hi Kath,
This is beautiful! Strange color of the grass with frost. Cold for the fingers, isn't it? Very good point of view, it's why I prefer this one at the workshop version, though I appreciate it for a better understanding of the place. I like the soft tones of the picture, you very well managed the light. Nice gallery by the way, I'm discovering it!

Lovely rural image Kath, the soft colour tones are very nice here. Great composition, showing just a part of the house, giving a better view of the sunlit trees in background.

I have to comment on this (having been directed from your more recent summer post!) but for me this is absolutely stunning. The cold winter light is excellent & the frost really adds to the winter atmosphere.
