Photographer's Note

This was taken in the heady days when I had a Leica MP and several top lenses. Loved the cameras, but sold them for the Canon EOS 1DS Mark II digital. No real regrets, though I do miss the Leica, and the Canon is so much heavier and noisier.

Every term there is a concert for the residents of a local old folks' home. In fact it is more than a concert, as the boys eat with them and chat, when they are not performing. That was a great afternoon. There is nothing like two hours taking pictures with a Leica! Unfortunately, there is also nothing quite as negative as rushing to develop every 36 exposures, and then spend hours scanning them. Also, the Canon would have been unusable in these conditions, as it is so loud.

The lighting is difficult in our hall. Quite dark, with black curtains. A normal in-camera exposure meter is useless without interpretation (generally +2 or even +3 stops). However, it is stunning when the conditions are allowed for.
