Iran had recently a bad earthquake in its west,...
earthquake...
earthquake...
and ...
-----------------------
But,...almost two years ago...
A powerful earthquake destroys historic Silk Road city Bam, Iran - December 26 2003, 5:27 AM,killing over 43,000 people, injured 20,000,left 60,000 homeless and destroyed much of the city of Bam and the old Bam citadel.
-----------------------
The enormous and old citadel of Bam (Arg-e Bam)is recorded by Unesco as a World Heritage Site.
Bam Citadel was one of the largest adobe structures in the world and one of the most beautiful historical sites in Iran, which dates back to 2000 years ago. Unfortunately, more than 80 percent of this magnificent citadel collapsed when a massive earthquake hit the region.
The existence of life in the oasis was based on the underground irrigation canals, the qanāts, of which Bam has preserved some of the earliest evidence in Iran.
The Citadel of Bam is the most representative example of a fortified medieval town built in vernacular technique using mud layers.

Hi Mohammad, it's ashame that such an outstanding place must be hit by an earthquake but I think they can rebuit a lot (in time and I hope the western world will add to it in money to realize it). The people killed won't be back and there will be a loss for many years in many families.
Thanks for remembering and reminding and regards, Gerrit

Hi Mohammad. Sorry to hear about a new severe earthquake in your home country. This photo is a fine reminder of the glory of Bam before the bad 2003 quake - impressive details and quite amazing to see this intricate array of architecture (as it used to be) in the large version. Best wishes, greetings from Japan.

I remember the December 2003 earthquake Mohammad. The pictures on our TV and papers were very sad to see. Such devastation of the well known historical vity of Bam. And such a terrible loss of life too.
Your stitchwork here is very good, and Bam looked so good back then. What has happened to it now - has there been any rebuilding?
Earthquakes are so unforgiving... Man cannot fight against them.
Thank you for posting this wonderful scene.

My sympathies once again to you and your countryfolk for this latest disaster - the trials of the country by earthquake will go on no doubt - I hope other troubles will end sooner - this is a wonderful picture of this fantastic place - so strange to think what centuries these buildings stood only to be flattened within seconds. Nice work to stitch your scans together.
best wishes Kev

Mohammad, c'est un pano très réussi de cette citadelle deux fois millénaire. J'aime la couleur des pierres et la lumière qui n'éclaire franchement que certaines parties comme avec des spots. Excellente photo !

I've just been catching up on your Bam photos and have looked at three of them. I think this is the most magnificent (and it is) of the three. Very sad, the events here, to both the present families of Bam and to the great loss of history. I don't know if it's a place I'd have ever been able to see, sadly, but I am greatful to be able to have seen your series of shots here on TE. Thank you for them.

Mohammed,
From your recent desert picture upload I went into your gallery and was simply amazed by the quality there.
I'm not very original in my choice of a favourite, but this has to be it (so far). This is a perfect stitch job..and this is a picture that really does tell a story.
I will certainly be back for more! Keep your excellent work coming!
