Photographer's Note
Sometimes religious and secular co-exist in the same place and time, but worlds apart, with no interaction.
The place is the Sea of Galilee. The time, just before the beginning of the Sabbath (Jewish Saturday), which is about 4:30 pm in the winter: Orthodox Jews take their ritual bath to purify themselves, physically and spiritually; the guys on the kayaks couldn't be more indifferent to them.

Hi Daniel,
yes, it is a peculiar combination, something very religious mixed with a sport activity. It seems that the boys of kayaks do not pay much attention to the activity of the orthodox Jews making its ritual bath, your photo has caught skillfully this dissosciation, they row, the others are cleaning and praying.
Excellent work, in the spirit of T.E., with that we learn something new every day.
Regards,
Josep
PS: I already had seen these extreme religious Jews in New York City, and I assure to you that hit to me to see them in its district (Williamsburg), in a society very closed and anchored in the past, in great resistance with the rest of that city. Nevertheless, I respect the faith of all the people.

No idea why, but this brings back a lot of memories.
At first I thought this was at hof a dateeyem in tel-aviv, but clearly the water is much cleaner here!
I shudder....

Hello stranger. Good to see you posting again. This is a very original photo of a scene I have never heard about. Very interesting. Does the ritual bath have to be naked?

In the greatest spirit of TE.
What are the chances that I would even know about this orthodox ablutus tradition.
Wonderful scene (have you noticed that 'enlighted' cleaness of this photo? The pattern of the water surface, perhaps?).
Thanks Daniel for this free lesson.
One of these very few ones in life I'll remember ( Don't ask me though, about the structural gas components of the air we breathe (:-))) !
Have a great one, pal

Hi Daniel,
A good POV of the kayakists and of the Orthodox Jews taking their ritual bath, the photo is sharp and clear. It has a good composition, perspective and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.
