Photographer's Note
This rock arch in the Wadi Rum desert was not surprisingly a focal point for another group of tourists who had annoyingly parked right in the way for anyone wanting to take photographs. Perhaps it was understandable that they wanted the best shady spot, but rather inconsiderate too. Since it was impossible to avoid getting the 4WDs in the scene I just had to settle for this shot, where the cars at least give some idea of scale.
In the harsh midday sun, this scene was full of contrasts, so the background is a bit overexposed but I wanted to show at least some of the detail of the rock under the arch.

Hello Susanna,
very nice clear desert shot.Very well composed with the cars below the fabulous arch giving an excellent scale of what we are seeing.Very nice colors considering the hard light conditions, very good sharpness and definition, great POV.Compliments!

I think you have done a wonderful job under very difficult light conditions. Well composed with the arch framing the dune/hill behind. I can sympathise with your frustration about the 4WDs but as you say they do provide scale.

Hello Susanna - yes, I've been a bit of a stranger to the site lately but, as you might know, I can't resist an arch or too. This one is beautifully captured, perfect angle and exposure. Very nice.

Salut Toi,

Hi Susanna,
I hope it's OK that I like those cars. They do indicate scale and don't steal the show in shadows.
Great natural feature, good dynamic angle, and strong contrasts are well in control.

Hello Susanna,
Bien vu, a+

Hi Susanna,
I love this shot and your note. The well chosen POV makes a beautiful dramatic image of this impressive arch and even the 4WDs adds a warm human atmosphere that I like. It resulted on a diferent image and moment that could not be avoided and sometimes the not perfect conditions can add interesting details. Well manage lighting, considering the dificulties of it and nice colours. Congratulations!

Ricardo

Hi Susanna - the 4WDS do give a sense of scale, but I also would have been upset by them, the shape of the arch is quite dramatic, and I think the exposure level is at a happy medium, the sand is not that much washed out, could have been alot worse. The graffiti was also inconsiderate.

Hello Susanna, this is a fabulous rock arching across the sky. The sandy colour complements the sky well. As you say, shame about the cars. I guess you would rather have had a camel...
