Photographer's Note

Wake up at 4 and a half to see the magic of dawn in the desert. But a big surprise came on the morning of March 19th after sleeping in the Omani desert. A very humid and foggy morning. Great atmosphere, just me with my friend, 2 camels and the guide. And so much silence. What I thought was an unlucky day, turned into the occasion to witness a rare show. This is my first photo since my last trip, good morning Oman.

BUONGIORNO OMAN

Sveglia alle 4 e mezza per vedere la magia dell'alba nel deserto. Ma una grande sorpresa si è presentata la mattina del 19 Marzo dopo aver dormito nel deserto omanita. Una mattina molto umida e con molta nebbia. Grande atmosfera, solo io con il mio amico, 2 cammelli e la guida. E tanto silenzio. Quella che pensavo fosse una giornata sfortunata, si è trasformata nell'occasione di assistere ad uno spettacolo raro. Questa è la mia prima foto dal mio ultimo viaggio, buongiorno Oman.

WOW! Madagascar one day - and Oman the next day! You are becoming a very serious traveller, Luciano, just like Malgo!

The magic of dawn in the desert indeed! This is a lovely shot, the mist still hanging over the land, the camels waking and pondering what tasks they have ahead of them today - and sand and desert as far as the eye can see.

Lovely soft morning light, fine true colours, perfect composition and exposure and exquisite details and clarity.

And a fine note too. Thank you.

Bonsoir Luciano,

L'étendue de l'endroit crée de la profondeur. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des chameaux et des dunes. La brume a un effet spécial sur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

Already back from Oman? beautiful picture with the camels sleeping on the desert. Wonderful morning haze.
I know how it is on the deserts. I was on such a camel trip that we slept under stars on the tsar desert near Jaisalmer. It was very cold. Also in South Africa.

I like the superb sharpness, the cooperative camel and the rippled textures of the sand. A pleasant diffused light and fog was not what I would expect in the desert. Tfs!

Hello Luciano,
For one camel it seems a bit too early to get up while the other also peers into the distant fog.
That fog is beautifully situated between two long sand hills.
A humid climate is a bit unexpected in the desert. I suppose you mean a humidity in the air and not that it was raining. I experienced a similar climate at the Persian Gulf in Iran long time ago.
Yet the picture has a very good atmosphere of desolation in an infinite space. You've composed it very well.

Interesting and a moody early morning capture. Very much like the foreground lead towards the open spaces of the desert covered in mist and it takes on an other worldly aspect.

Bit of a change from Madagascar! The desert can indeed be a beautiful place as well as a hostile environment. Excellent composition with the pair of camels perfectly placed in the frame. The misty atmosphere, which contributes much to the mood, is very well managed. I like the soft light and muted colours. Great stuff.

a marvelous view. I liked the way you used the camels at side and landscape ahead. the fog added a special touch of magic and remind me the fog in the desert of chile, that isn't so rare. a special view from a country not so frequently photographed.

Hello Luciano,
I was wondering where you had gone. I didn't experience any mornings like this when I crossed the Sahara, but the fog has created a strange and appealing atmosphere. It's like you were near a bay of the sea. The blueish tones of the upper part are very attractive and the camels are of course the perfect eye-catchers in this environment.

Hello Luciano,

As I see the camels were sleepy too! :) For me its an award wining photo: instead of showing the typical caravan in the desert with the setting sun in the bg, you portrayed a more unique moment, what not everybody would do. It earned its place among my favourites.

I didn't know that you had been to Oman so this was very much a 'wake up, Bev'!

The photograph gives a most stunning impression of the beginning of the day in Oman.
I love the composition, the resting camels strongly positioned and the footsteps guiding across the rippled sand.
The slightly changing hues and the slightly changing sharpness create a amazing sense of depth and atmosphere.

I love it and will have to place this in my favourites!

The fog adds an extra layer and a touch of mystery, as if you were about to search of a hidden treasure like an Aladdin lamp.

As you mentioned the fog in the desert... I had to find this photo. The delicate blue mist adds heaps of atmosphere, a contrasting colour and separates the dunes in the distance. Perfect effect and also great foreground with the two camels.
