Photographer's Note

The city which lies near the Hamlet of Geyre, a small village belonging to the district of Karacasu, Aydın is one of the important settlements of Carian Region. Aphrodisias which reached a great prosperity during the Roman period, had a school of sculpture. The works of the arts produced in this school were in the Mediterranean Region. The statuary from the Roman period is almost entirely well-preserved. Among the most important sculptural works are the Friezes from the Portico of Tiberius. These Friezes with masks have distinctive features because of their strong expressions. This picture was taken in the Archeological Museum of Izmir.
