Photographer's Note

There are 5 ruined churches on the island dating from the 4th and 6th centuries AD. Archaeologists are fairly certain St Nicholas lived here & was originally buried here before his remains were moved to Myra. It was thought that Italian monks took his remains to Bari in Italy, but they may have taken the wrong coffin. Just recently another coffin was discovered buried much deeper. St Nicholas gave rise to the legend of Santa Claus and is the patron saint of Russia. There were several 'blue cruise' gulet yachts anchored here overnight. One of them was mine. It might have been 200+ Euro, but it was money well spent. I had the most enjoyable 4 days / 3 nights in Turkey on-board during the 3 months touring that I did. All meals were included.
