Photographer's Note
The riverfront section of the old town area of Amasya, a medium sized town north east of Ankara. The 5 Phrygian tombs on the hillside above are also lit up at night, and colors are changing frequently. I might load a wider angled view showing the tombs at a later date. Or you can see them here. They are lit in violet.

Here I have caught the illumination in red lighting. A bit 'Disneyesque' for some, but on the plus side, there are good opportunities offered for night photographers. The motion blurred object overhanging the river at left is a large Turkish flag.

The lighting is a bit garish but is certainly eye-caching. I like the composition and point of view and those shimmering reflections. Well exposed with good tonal contrast and sharpness.

Hello Chris,
I know some people object to the restoration of the old town of Amasya, and the construction of new buildings in the old style, but I think it is one of the most fascinating towns in all of Turkey. In spite of the Disneyesque effect of the illumination I really enjoyed my evening walks along the river during my visit three years ago. You composed and exposed this very well and I think you captured the unnatural colours very naturally. ;-)

Hi Chris,
I don't think disneyesque at all, I think it's really cool. Though I haven't been to Disney, but nonetheless I think this red light is a great way to make a feature of that group of interesting buildings. The clock tower peeping over from behind is perfectly placed and creates a great sense of depth, I love it's color too.

The first aspect that hits the eyes are the colours! They are wonderfully vibrant, extended by their reflections and contrast so vividly with the dark, night sky.
Your angled viewpoint works well to guide into the b/g, where the tall clock tower is strongly placed in the frame.

Les reflets sur l'eau sont des atouts à la composition. L'utilisation d'un temps d'exposition de 30 secondes et probablement d'un support permet de voir les détails des immeubles illuminés. Cela a aussi un effet spécial sur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

I have not been to Amasya, I should have got around more when I was in Turkey. Yes, the colors are a bit too flamboyant but that has made for a beautiful photo. BTW, which river is this? (I'll guess Kızılırmak.)
