Photographer's Note

The Blue Mosque is the the most famous and visited by the tourists who travel to Istanbul. It owes its name to the vivid blue and green color of Iznik's mosaics that decorate the domes and the top part of the Mosque.
It was constructed during the reign of the fourteenth Ottoman sultan, Ahmet the First, between 1603 and 1617. It possesses the privilege of being the only one of the whole Turkey that has 6 minarets, which awards an added value in reference to the rest of Mosques.
Is placed opposite to Holy Sofia, in the downtown and nearby of the Topkapi Palace, in fact, this proximity with the palace was one of the principal motives by which this place was chosen for its construction. In addition from this point of the city it was possible to dominate both seas that surround Istanbul.
In its construction there were used 21.043 blue rollers done in the workshops of the Palace. In addition, it possesses 260 large windows aligned in five levels, which allow a filtration of spectacular light that makes impressed each of the tourists who visit it. For this reason it is advisable to make this visit for a sunny day.

This night shot were an attempt for to catch its fantastic golden lighting in contrast with the darkness of the sky.
I do not find any more words in order to justify why I took this photo. Simply I needed to do it.

La Mezquita Azul es la más famosa y visitada por los turistas que viajan a Estambul. Debe su nombre al color azul vivo y verde de los mosaicos de Iznik que decoran las cúpulas y la parte superior de la Mezquita.
Fue construida durante el reinado del decimocuarto sultán otomano, Ahmet I, entre los años 1603 y 1617. Cuenta con el privilegio de ser la única de toda Turquía que posee 6 minaretes, lo que le confiere un valor añadido frente al resto de Mezquitas.
Está situada frente a la Iglesia de Santa Sofía, en el centro de la ciudad y muy cerca del Palacio Topkapi, de hecho, esta proximidad con el palacio fue uno de los motivos principales por los que se eligió este lugar para su construcción. Además desde este punto de la ciudad se podía dominar los dos mares que rodean Estambul.
En su construcción se usaron 21.043 azulejos hechos en los talleres del Palacio. Además, posee 260 ventanales alineados en cinco niveles, que permiten una filtración de luz espectacular que deja impresionado a cada uno de los turistas que la visitan. Por ello es recomendable dejar esta visita para un día soleado.

Esta toma nocturna fue un intento de captar su fantástica iluminación dorada en contraste con la oscuridad del cielo.
No encuentro más palabras para justificar por qué tomé esta foto. Simplemente tenía que hacerlo.

yes, you simply needed to do it and we're all glad that you did :)
The black light is what gives the mosque its much needed contrast with the yellows and golds. Looks fantastic in this setup.
wouldnt change anything at all.
the end result is a photo you should be proud of in your gallery.

Bonjour Josep,
Une très belle vue nocturne de cette célèbre mosquée magnifiquement illuminée, ce qui a pour conséquence que la mosquée bleue s'est transformée en mosquée orange ;) J'aime l'effet des lampadaires ainsi que la façon dont les minarets se détachent dans la nuit. Le rendu des lumières est excellent, et les spectateurs au premier plan invitent à se joindre à eux pour contempler le superbe édifice. Excellent travail et bonne note historique.

There is always something warm and inviting about this evening shot with the lights and terrific colours of the grand mosque and its surroundings. The atmosphere really comes through with the central glow as focal point and invitingly warmth to the light, good focusing around the structures, superb exposure, and brilliant details and nice bits of foreground interest. Hello Josep,
Blue Mosque can be photographed many times but every time is different. Your night picture makes the walls looks gold and the minarets stand out from the black sky. The people present in the foreground add some life and make the scene more real. I also like the lanterns around the square which give another source of light.
Good POV and well given sharpness.

Amazing 30 sec. exp. on 200 ISO, and no "grains" effect on the dark part of the image, Josep.
The technical's gave grace to the marvelous sight on a clear night.
People looks as cold shivering - but wait in anticipation to consume the beauty.
Marvelous taken night scene, the place is intriguing and magnificent.

Esplendida esta composicion nocturna, que nos muestra la Mezquita Azul, como una joya resaltando en la noche, ideal como has captado los minaretes en una perfecta verticalidad, la presencia de toda ese gente da un buen toque vital en la imagen.
Muy bien la luminosidad y la nitidez, para mi muy dificil de captar asi en la noche, pero claro yo no utilizo tripode, asi que es imposible conseguirlas, pero las admiro y disfruto.
Un trabajo esplendido que me gusta mucho.
Os deseo paseis una buena semana.
