Photographer's Note

Midyat is an attractive honey-coloured town in Upper Mesopotamia, located east of Mardin. There are many box-shaped houses made of limestone and quite a few belfries of Syrian Orthodoxy churches.
As well as Mardin, Midyat is a great mosaic town reflecting its complicated history that goes back long before Christianity. This beautiful town has been surviving through difficult centuries, having been ruled in turn by the Sumerian, Assyrians, Urartians, Macedonians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines, Abbasids Arabs, and Ottomans...
