The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople (Greek: Οἰκουμενικὸν Πατριαρχεῖον Κωνσταντινουπόλεως, Oikoumenikòn Patriarcheîon Kōnstantinoupóleōs; Turkish: Rum Ortodoks Patrikhanesi,[1][2] "Greek Orthodox Patriarchate"), part of the wider Greek Orthodox Church, is one of the fourteen autocephalous churches within the communion of Orthodox Christianity. It is headed by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, who has the status of "first among equals" among the world's Orthodox bishops. The current patriarch, and spiritual leader[3] of the world's 300 million Orthodox Christians,[4] is Bartholomew I.
