Photographer's Note

This wooden tram is one of the oldest functioning public transports in the world. It runs from Istanbul's two-stop underground to Taksim square through old district called Pera along pedestrian Istiklal Caddesi (Independence street).

After having been taken out of service in the 1950s, the Istiklal Caddesi tram was restored and revived in the 1990s. Although it's as much a curiosity as a means of transport, you'll find it useful if your feet are tired while walking Beyoglu's main shopping and dining avenue.
