Photographer's Note
This photo was taken from Galata Tower during our 1996 visit to Istanbul. We were visiting Mom and Dad as newlyweds and a dinner reception at Galata Tower with just close friends and family was the opening of the festivities.
Frankly, at the time, I did not even notice that I had taken a photo of San Pietro and Paolo Church. I was just shooting the scenery from the tower. I found out about the church when I worked on the scan of the film a few weeks ago. Here are excerpts about the church from Wikipedia: SS Peter and Paul (Turkish: Sen Pier ve Sen Paul Kilisesi, Italian: Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo a Galata) is a Roman Catholic church in Istanbul, important for historical reasons. The church owns an icon of the Virgin of the Hodegetria type, which originally lay in a Dominican church in Caffa, Crimea. The current building is a nineteenth-century (1841 to 1843) reconstruction of the Fossati brothers. The church is built in the form of a basilica, with a four side altar. The cupola over the choir is sky blue, studded with gold stars. The church's rear wall is built into a section of Galata's old Genoese ramparts. The church possesses several relics: those of Saint Renatus (found in the catacombs of Galata), and others of Saint Thomas, Saint Dominic and the Saints Peter and Paul. The yard East of the church's entrance takes the form of a narrow alleyway enclosed by high walls which are covered with sculptures and inscribed gravestones, most of them in Italian.
Hzler Peter ve Paul
Bu fotoğraf İstanbul'a 1996'daki ziyaretimiz sırasında Galata Kulesinden alınmıştır.

Hello Murat,
The view from the Galata Tower is awesome and so colourful. I understand from your note that this picture is taken in the evening.
I've never been inside or on top of this tower. I'm not sure that it was possible to visit in the early 80-s when I was in Istanbul.
I like here the vertical lines of the tower of the church with the minarets of the mosques in the extension.
Probably it wasn't possible to hang over the railing to take the picture.
Best regards, Paul

Tebrikler
Selam ve sevgiler

Hi Murat,
A great over view of Galata Bridge and the Golden Horn.
I notice that the trams were not about then. It has certainly changed since 1996.
Have a nice weekend.
Arnie.

Hello Murat,
I have been up to Galata Hill and a restaurant beside it but have yet to go up to the top of the tower itself. I like the view. I may have tried to crop in camera or clone out the oof strut in the fg. Good warm cold color contrasts between the blue and red. Excellent sharpness with good clarity in Sultanahmet in the distance. Tfs!

Hi, Murat,
Sometime I like old scanned photo more than new glam digital images. This photo is a part of history. I was here in 2000 and I still remember my emotions of the 1st day in Istanbul.
Have a nice day!
Greetings from Phoenix!

Hello Murat,
a very impressive, rewarding and interesting view. I like very much how the view unfolds before our eyes, from the unique style of the church in the foreground all the way to the coast in the distant background. The light of the sunset is marvellous and creates a very lovely atmosphere, romantic and mysterious. If you took the same picture today, you would achieve a better quality but I don't know if the charm would be the same. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
Ourania
