Photographer's Note

The tenth in a series of images from places I have not posted from yet in an attempt to fill out my TE map as much as possible.

Fredericton, New Brunswick had been on my 'to see list' for quite a while, due to the fact that a namesake of mine had once achieved some fame in the city: that is former Fredericton Fire Chief Andrew Lipsett. Fire Chief Lipsett died in 1905 of smoke inhalation, leading to a large outpouring of grief from the community he served for 30 years, as well as to this newspaper headline, which I've always been tempted to write the Fredericton Fire Department to try to get a poster-sized copy - a bit of black humor, sure, but it would certainly be entertaining.

I achieved my goal of visiting the city in 2007. No real remnants of Fire Chief Lipsett's life remain, and the fire station in which he served, while the building still stands, is now a commercial building. Pictured here is Fredericton's lovely City Hall, a Second Empire style building that is among the city's most beautiful.
