Photographer's Note

The Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica is an ecclesiastic basilica in Ottawa, Canada. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1990.
The lower features, such as the main entrance, are Neo-Classical, while the rest is Neo-Gothic. The main structure was finished in 1846, but it was not until 1866 that the spires were installed. The steeples are topped with standard French-Canadian tin and bells. Its exterior is fairly reserved, but the interior is as far more ornate, designed by Georges Buillon. The interior of the church is brightly painted and decorated with carved features, exquisite stained glass windows and hundreds of statues of various religious figures. Louis-Philippe Hébert completed thirty large wooden sculptures in the choir. At the end of the choir, the Holy Family is completed with saints John the Baptist and Patrick, the patron saints of English and French Catholics.

The Basilica is the oldest church in Ottawa and the seat of the city's Catholic archbishop. Its twin spires and gilded Madonna are easily identifiable from nearby Parliament Hill and the surrounding area. The church was recently renovated and restored in the late 1990s. Services are held in both French and English.

Hello Paul!
A real classic neo-Gothic cathedral. Beautiful central setting, very nice lights. The blue points in the ceiling in Rome, Sopra Minerva Church.
Very well done photo.

What a great photo. Perfect simmetry and perfect correction of the distorsions due to the lens lateral aberrations. The columns are well vertical like the human eye can see. Beautiful details and excellent light management.
The church is impressive !

Nice, classical framing. It's difficult to capture dark interior and bright windows accurately exposed. Also here the windows are overexposed. If you have a RAW file, maybe you could develop another exposition to recover some of lights, then combine 2 expositions to have the interior and windows nicely presented?

Amazing indoor shot and excellent processing with lovely ornated design and so much to look at in superb detail and colors. Loads of charm in excellent depth and symmetry all really so pleasing. Exposure and clarity are superb, pin sharp, I think you must be over the moon with this composition. The perspective & pov make space looks bigger and the blue ceiling does give that extra depth to the image. Cool shot!

I think the angle is perfect, the symmetry is perfect (ie the pillars each side of the photo are a perfect distance up to the edge of the photo) and the colours are lovely, specially the blue ceiling. Being a non-believer I'm always awed by the people who spend generations building these places as a homage to their beliefs.

How about a wide-angle lens portrait shot just up the aisle to the ceiling?
