Photographer's Note

This famous building was constructed in 1992, designed by the renown architect Raymond Moriyama. From the three interconnected yellow brick buildings, the Rotunda is the most eye-catching; it has been the centre of frequent social and political debates. Named after George Vari (1923-2010) and his wife Helen, a major donors of the University. Vari had an extraordinary life. He was born in Hungary, during WWII he studied in Switzerland. After the war he returned to Hungary and obtained a law degree in Szeged, then degrees in economics and civil engineering in Budapest. Vari emigrated to Canada following the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and quickly become a multimillionaire real estate developer and philanthropist. In 1992 he became a member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, entitled to be addressed as "The Honourable". He was also named to the Order of Canada; both he and his wife have been appointed to France's Legion d'Honneur.
In response to Noel's comment I put my 1992 scanned picture of this building to the Workshop. It's sharpness and colour balance is poor, but the big grey building in the background is less dominant.
