Photographer's Note

I dedicate this posting to those among us who have left one country for another in an attempt to make a better life.
Montauban is a very sleepy town an hour due west of Quebec City. But fifty years ago, this was a busy place for there were several productive mines in walking distance of this church. My father worked in one of them just after he arrived in Canada and earned the money to bring my mother and me over from Germany. The three of us stayed there and he continued that hard life through a bitter cold winter until the company began laying off the men. It's an old story, and, as Pablo Minto says: it's a common one for the founding of our country. Ich danke Euch, Mutter u Vater
