Photographer's Note
The Railway Lands is a large brownfield redevelopment area just north of Harbourfront. The zone extends from Bathurst Street in the west to Yonge Street in the east between Front Street West and the Gardiner Expressway. It is also divided into East and West/Central sections at Simcoe Street by the city planning department.
As the name suggests the area was historically occupied by rail lines and related infrastructure which have gradually fallen into disuse. Redevelopment of the lands kicked-off in a big way with construction of the CN Tower in the 1970s. Construction continued through the 80's and 90's with major projects such as the Rogers Centre and Air Canada Centre, and continues to this day with a multitude of high-rise condominums.
