Photographer's Note

My very first fireworks photo, ever!
This is something i've always wanted to try, but just never got around to doing it, so now i can take it off of my list!

Once a year, Vancouver holds an event called "The Celebration of Light". Its a week long competition of numerous countries showing off their fireworks display.
On this day, it was Spain. If you want to know....China is the 2011 winner, Canada won in 2010.

The amount of people flocking to downtown to watch these fireworks is amazing, getting in and out of the downtown area is a joke due to the crowds - and thats why i always seemed to take the "wait until next year" attitude. If you look closely, you can see alot of people lined along the bridge deck.

This year however, i picked out the BEST spot in the house! I avoided ALL the crowds by choosing to photograph the event from the Granville Street Bridge. Most people stand on the Burard Bridge, the one in the photo b/c its closer. The Granville bridge was just me and a number of other photographers with their tripods - i felt at home! :)

Its just too bad the city of Vancouver didn't recognize that the lights on the left leg of the bridge were out!! That's annoying! Other than that, i think it turned out ok. I didn't saturate the colors as they are true, but i did add noise reduction and increased the contrast levels.

Have a great Sunday, thanks for looking.
