Photographer's Note

Its been over a month since my last TE post, and I come back today with sad news.

One of our beloved and newly built areas of the city is burning to the ground even as I'm writing this.

I've posted a very similar shot of this scene 4 years ago, when it was brand new. Today, its gone.

This new area once was a dump, a place where nobody wanted to go, full of addicts and homeless. They revamped the entire area with beach volley ball, basketball courts, tennis courts, this cool art structure you see in the main post, walking trails along the Fraser River...its now one of the most popular places to visit for locals.

In the WS are more shots taken on a cold wet day, so nobody is around, but trust me, its a popular area, and now its bured to the ground.

I still do not know all the info, as to what started the fire, i'll have to explore and get more info.
The fire started late last night and is still burning along the river in New Westminster.

So sad, the city worked so hard to re-vamp this old area and did a fantastic job. Now its gone.

This was one of the areas I was going to take Rob and Lars to if we had more time.

To answer Gert's question...yes, the large Fires in California and all throughout the Western USA has had an effect on us as well. In fact, it was all over the news on Saturday that Vancouver recorded the WORST AIR POLLUTION OF ANY MAJOR CITY IN THE WORLD. Our skies remain smoky brown, the government is advising us all to stay indoors.
