Photographer's Note
I'm proud to call this photo #600 from Canada.
This is a subject/photo I've been wanting to capture for years, literally, years. I finally got around to it in 2018.
This is a 17.5 Meter or 57 foot monument in East Vancouver, constructed in 2010 by artist Ken Lum, who also grew up in the East Vancouver area.
I don't expect this photo to get a lot of attention or TE points, but i'm posting it because if you lived here in Vancouver you'd understand. This has become such an Iconic Symbol of our City.
Even though this large East Van Cross has only been up since 2010, it's become so popular that its become common to see it on T-shirts, hats, in advertising, it really has become a logo of importance and pride for us locals.
At night it glows a bright white/blue and you can see that in the WS photos.
I'm sure in your local city, you have Iconic subjects that are similar, which all local photographers have in their own personal galleries. This is one for us Vancouverites. Hope you like it.

Hi Craig,
The tight frame is putting the cross in evidence. The point of view is showing the details of the cross. The light is enhancing the colours. In Montreal there is a big cross ont Mount Royal, have a nice day.

Hi Craig,in fact many towns has a symbolic icon, sometimes unknows or not famous. So i can understand what this one means for you. Very original,i like a lot the pic in the orange sky in the WS,but the other 2 are very nice too. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Craig,
I'm glad that you added a w/s showing where the icon is situated, though I agree with this as a main post. I can imagine that this white logo would make a great emblem on a 't' shirt and would help to unite the population in the pride for their city.
Don't you think that the simpler the icon, the more readily recognisable it becomes!
This is a fine close crop, perfectly composed.
Hope things are getting a little more normal in your city,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig,
It's a graphically striking photo with the monument's design and distinct contrasts of black and white on blue. Compared to both WS this is by far the best composition and the one that makes it easiest to understand why this monument has become so iconic. Has its popularity made Ken Lum a rich man from royalties, or did he sell his soul for a lump sum?
The low angle and tight crop are your contributions.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hi Craig,
It is impossible to guess the huge size of this landmark on this picture. At 17.5 it surely is a landmark and bound to be well known. And relative simplicity makes it a good subject t-shirts and souvenirs.
You maximized the contrast on this shot with dark blue sky in background. Symmetry is perfect and steep upwards angle makes this quite dynamic.

Hello Craig,
A great photo of this cross, captured from an excellent angle. The white parts stand out so well from the blue sky, perfect exposoure of the white parts as well in this fine sunlight.

Hello Craig,
I really like this POV. The cross is bold and in our faces - in a good way. :-) The color of the sky is perfect for making the white trim jump out, too. Take care!

Hello Craig, all three shots work really well.
I do like the street view with the monument off centre as the traffic zooms past.
An interesting comment about identities of our towns and cities; Plymouth UK would probably be Smeaton's Tower (lighthouse) that stands on the Hoe, a picture that I have shared on TE in the past.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Craig.
In your presentation this popular EastVan symbol even glows white/blue in day light.
Well taken, your dream eventually has been fulfilled in fashion. TFS!!!

Bonjour, cher Craig,
Contre toute attente, cette composition emporte l'adhésion des amis de TE.
Il faut dire que le sujet est fort bien présenté.
J'ai bien aimé la photo présentée en annexe.
Amitiés.

Hi Craig
You're wrong about lack of attention and TE points. That's because it is a good but unusual photo with its steeply angled POV.
cheers

Hello Craig, Impressive view and original composition, but without reference to the scale of it it would be difficult to appreciate. Thanks for the Workshop.

Hi Craig,
so is it something like a Hollywood sign?
Before reading your note I tried to guess whether it is an advert, maybe of a pharmacy...
Great capture for sure with the dark blue sky making a fantastic background here.
And I see you pay attention to the numbers as well:
congratulation on the round number from your country. So you have 600 pics from Canada and over 1000 from other countries!
I don't live in my country and I changed the country few times so it is more complicated for me. I cannot even reach 100 from my home country because I am not frequently enough there... But soon I will I brought some pics which I will have to check yet. I would like to reach 100 from each country I lived in...
Never mind these must be funny considerations for people from outside TE...
Have a great weekend!

Craig, the viewpoint from below shows the big size of this sign. It marks the eastern part of Vancouver. The blue sky forms a nice background. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
