This photo was taken at the Toronto Zoo.

Sumatran tigers are critically endangered because of the loss of habitat due to the expansion of the human population, and the logging of forests. As well, the elimination of natural prey and the poaching for tiger parts are threats to survival.

Sumatran tigers are the smallest and darkest of the tigers. Massively built animal with a rounded head, a long muscular body with powerful limbs, especially the forelimbs and shoulders which enables them to overpower prey larger than themselves.
