Photographer's Note
This would be the second photo is the continuation of my Highway series. I took this photo at the same place where I had taken the previous photo but on a different day.
Again it is Highway 401 and the White streaks of light in the sky is actually an Airplane taking off from the YYZ airport in Toronto.
The white streaks from traffic lights on the road do not do justice to the size of this highway, To get a good idea about the size of this highway, Please look at this photo.
I have also posted a different POV of the Plane and the highway in the WS.
Only thing that bothers me about this photo is the twinkling effect of street lights.
Thanks for your visit and have a nice day.
I have also started a Discussion Forum today about How much time do we spend on TE each week. Please click here, if you would like to contribute to discussion and survey.

Bonjour mon ami,
This is nice again. I prefer this version to the WS and overall, your first posting is certainly my favorite. That being said, this is a great shot of it's own merit. The plane taking off is so cool. It would not be as good without it, so great timming on your part. I would be curious to see this shot with a little less traffic on the left lane, but on the 401, I must be asking for too much..;-) For me the twinkling effect is quite OK and add to the night effect and the charm of the image.
A really good job. You probably inhaled a lot of fumes for these photos, but your sacrifice was well worth it. :-D

You are right, the real size of the road can't be appreciated here in all its dimension, but I like the lots and lots of light trails left by the cars. The idea of including a departing plane is excellent, perhaps you could reduce the f/ number, expose for some 5 minutes, and get more planes and more traffic lines. Just an idea.

Hello Sarju,
What a great shot is this, certainly when the airplane takes off.
It turns the picture a different looks than usual.

I really like the pics you've included in your highway series; however, this is my favourite. The aircraft streaks add a special element to the snap (especially since you were able to catch the lights on the ends of the wings).

Hey Sarju;
Another great shot from you. I was just going to add this one to my theme "Coming & Going", but I see you've already beat me to it.
Great idea being close to the airport to capture the lights of the plane taking off. I'm very tempted to set up my tripod near the airport here in Singapore, but security is sooo tight that you'd most likely be questioned by police within minutes!
One suggestion I do have Sarju.... have you tried using a polariser? This will let you still capture the lines, but may cut down on some of the brightness.
I hope to post some more soon, at the moment-I'm learning how to use my new Canon 5D.
All the best Sarju, and keep up the great work!

I love night shots, and this one would have to be right up there. Love the trails of light and what really adds to this shot is the plane taking off in the background especially the little dots on either side of the plane. I think the street lights add to this image as they give off a star pattern of light through-out the photo. Well done.

Hi Sarju, An excellent job to get the airplane trajectory. I like the view of the curves and the lines of the dynamics of the highway and the airplane. Well seen, well captured. Well done.

Another excellent night shot from you. The flares on the street lights don't worry me. And as for the plane.....I was interested to see the extra red light on the plane in the WS Well done

Hi Sarju,
I am really enjoying this highway series. Again you have captured the great streaks of light, but with greater brightness. Perhaps not as dramatic as previous shots, but still splendid, with the enhancement of those pair of white lights streaking skyward to the left. The twinkling effect doesn't bother my eyes, perhaps they are a little bright, but not detracting in any significant way. Well captured and happy 50th.

Hej Sarju,
All the lights of the cars on this highway look very impressive. Really wonderful capture. But the best part of this photo is the air plane. Very well done!

Hello Sarju
or rather good morning
Looking great photo today, the star like effect or twinkling is due to the long exposure but mostly the small aperture.and they add a special mood to the whole.
What makes this photo different from other ones similar, are the lights of the plane taking off.
Have a good day

Hi, Sarju, I got a bad taste for Toronto when I was stuck for 3 days and 2 nights at this very airport on my way home to New Jersey from British Columbia in August. But you have shown it in a much prettier light.. I must say this is a well done time exposure with interesting composition. I really like the plane TAKING OFF.
I will be sure to check out the rest of your highway series.

Lisa

This is a great one indeed!
I really wondered [before reading your note] what the lights could be, going up in the sky like a ribbon...
I like a lot that kind of pictures where speed is suggested by the bright coloured lines, very well observed and realised Sarju!

Classic night shot. I was in Etobicoke last week and lamented the lack of photo opportunities... guess I didn't look hard enough!
Noise is commendably low for a night time long exposure.

Bonjour Sarju
Those street lights add sparkle to the picture: because of thier starlike pattern, they look like magic wands ! (Don't worry, I did'nt smoke herbs). You were very lucky to get contacts with people in control tower to synchronize your picture!
Great perspective and technique.
Wonderful.

Wow, the effect of the plane's lights in the dark sky is exceptional!
It's great to see places we've been and are driving on sometimes in a different way, and angle.
Another excellent shot of the 401!

C'est une fête pour les yeux ! Heureusement que tu as indiqué d'où provenaient les deux trainées lumineuses vers le ciel. Le graphisme et les couleurs sont ok.
