Photographer's Note

View of the fence built by the USA on the border with Mexico. This is the view, from the Mexican side, at Playas de Tijuana. In this photo, like most of the fence, I guess, the barrier is a continuous, compact, metallic shield. But, as you can see in my other photos of the series USA-Mexico: Border & Immigrants, it is also different on the beach and into the sea (metallic pillars) and around a momument that marks the beginning of the border (a kind of metallic net). [About the US-Mexico border, read the article Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo at Wikipedia and the related links suggested there.]
On the fence here you see some posters (better view in workshop). It is written there in Spanish: "Extienden la barda fronteriza, pero dejan entreabierta la puerta al desierto." That is: "They extend the border fence, but leave the door half-open at the desert." It's the result of the contradictions about to close or not to close the border, as the US economy needs the cheap labor of the undocumented immigrants, who have to cross the border at the desert where there is no fence yet.
