Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

The sea wall at Burham-on-Sea seems to have caused a lot of interest and it certainly did with me! I thought I would share some more photographs which reveal the extreme curve of the wall.

My first shot shows how the wall affects the steps between promenade and beach. I really liked the how the curves contrasted with the horizontal steps and their shadow patterns.

My other shots, posted as workshops, show just how much the wall has been shaped to deflect the sea.

We were speaking to some locals who explained the development of this unusual sea wall. In 1981, a high tide and a stormy sea combined to devastate the town. If you click on this link you will be able to see photographs of the havoc caused.

As a result, new sea defences were commissioned and this unusual, curved wall was designed, to deflect the power of the waves.

I don't think I have ever see such a sea wall before!

Thank you for your interest.
Have a good day, Bev :-)
