Photographer's Note
No, no !
Guys !
Stop !
How ever hard you look, the only backside you will find is that of the central tree, the famous Great Old Oak of Cropredy.
A stranger in their midst, this is the first posting of the Dark Side, the usual POV being from the Lock-keeper's Cottage on the Sunny Side.
Taken early in the morning, as the Lock-cottage-keeper advocated.
The light was clear, the air was fresh, and the mood quiet.
Perfect..

Hi Martin,
Excellent point of view, perfect for the vertical format. Good, tight composition, I like the branches closing in around the frame. The lighting is excellent, the house very nicely side lit makes a big difference here I think...this is why its worth getting up early before the clouds make an appearance and the light disappears...one thing though, I'm not sure about the very bottom of the frame, the barge and ring slightly out of focus? Maybe f/11 would have sorted it or maybe thats what you were going for anyway...
Kind Regards,
James

Hi Martin,
A perfect picture from the Dark Side! Crisp clear light and a touch of red. The moored narrow boats around the curve in the canal all add to a lovely composition. Another great image for the Great Oak theme.
Best wishes, Ann

Hello Martin,
An amusing yet interesting note and a fine photograph which has benefitted from your early rise to catch the lovely low angle early morning light.
The composition here is excellent with lovely curving lines of the canal and parked-up narrowboats all leading the eye to both the lovely red brick cottage and also the mighty Great Oak. But what I really love is the magnificent striated light on the roof of the nearest narrowboat together with the bright red lifebelt - wonderful features making an excellent foreground!
Perfect exposure, excellent depth of field and sharpness and lovely colours.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

I knew it had to come-- it was just a matter of time ..... what a great break away from the traditional angle.... It needed someone with fresh eyes and a different point of view to bring out the dark side of the GOOC.. lovely light on the rural cottage in the FG

Hi Martin,
you have chosen a very well working POV on this fascinating place (I will never get tired of this canal!). The perspective is also very interesting. And the management of the wonderful morning light is excellent!
My compliments also for the nice note.
Warm regards
Harriet
