Photographer's Note

Yes, she has far too much on her mind for a child. Sad photo, moving but well shot and crafted.

The image is very beautiful...but there isn't happiness in the eyes of that child...and this is a tragedy.
I have a son of 9 months old...and that image is very sad for me!!!
ciao.

Cette photo me trouble beaucoup.

A very mysterious photo. Children this young usually don't make those kind of faces, you are right when you say she is making the face an old woman might make. Indeed, it is kind of disturbing, but amazing non the less. Keep up the good work and keep posting.

Hi Isabelle,
Great cropping and effects. Your frame is perhaps too strong, and the noise could be removed, but other than that the image works well.

It is indeed a sad sight and you have captured it well. Very gripping. So young she doesn't even know how helpless she truely is. -r

Dear Isabelle,
The human civilization is going through a crisis as never before. The days of brute imperilaism is perhaps gone but has taken a subtle and more dangerous form, that of economic imperialism. The children in the under-developed countries are facing malnutrition resulting in high mortality rates; lack of education and political instability sometimes fuelled by external forces adding to their misery.
It is a moving portrait of one of those millions of children.
Regards,
Soumik

I have always wondered what little children think in their minds and what they are able see from this world that I cannot see after all those years.
Yes Isa, this is really striking. How could she be that thoughtful- is she really aware of her parents missing?
And for the photo, I always believe that B&W photos show the feelings more explicitly than the color ones.
Thanks for sharing...

Very intense photo, Isabelle!
Her expression is quite disturbing as is her whole posture. With the way her hands are positioned. It makes me want to give her a great big hug!
Great capture!

Isabelle,
Fantastic photo but as you say it's also disturbing. A child should not have to worry like this.
Well done

Hi Isabelle:
Wow. What a tragedy, these children with no childhood. Haiti is home to such desperation. This is one of the best people shots I've ever seen, because it says so much. It's all there--the deprivation, hunger, pain, and despair that this child has felt at the tender age of 10 months, the hopelessness, the lack of life in those eyes. I think that's the main thing--it's that lack of vigor in old people's eyes that gives them that "old woman look," and it's the overflowing vigor in children's eyes that makes them look young and vibrant. This child has no vigor in her eyes because she has seen nothing to give her hope or happiness. Wow. What an incredible shot.

Hi Isabelle!
This is a such a striking portrait and the title is touching especially after reading your note!
The close crop and the blurry background plus the noise adds to the effect and makes you want to know what she is thinking!

I see a baby to young to even have knowledge that something is not right, but she does sense it.....how come the world can't...I see so much in this picture, such unheard of maturity in such a young Angel, she should not have the weight of life in her eyes but should have joy unspeakable joy, something she may never know. A picture tells a thousand words!
