We left Sarahan in the morning….destination Rakcham via Sangla

The road to Sangla winds through the dense forest and goes down to reach the altitude of river Sutlej. The highway is along the river from here onwards. Passing the riverside town of Jeori, we reached the Wangtoo bridge, the first crossing of the Sutlej. The road was generally good with occasional bad patches, which are highly prone to landslide. We came across a bad patch after traveling approximately more than 50 kms from Sarahan. The road to Sangla follows the muddy & occasional blue-green water of Baspa along the deep gorge carved by the river, while the NH-22 continues along the course of Sutlej towards Spiti valley. Driving through the 18 kms stretch of steep narrow road was a cliff-hanger of an experience. We stopped once in a while to take the breathtaking view of the river flowing down in the deep gorge. In many places the road has been looks like been protected by the overhanging rock umbrella....quite an amazing scene for me. Far below on the right, down a steep plunge of 1.5 Km, the torrential waters of Baspa roared!
