Photographer's Note

So far this winter there has been no snow here in NYC. That is fine with me, and many other New Yorkers! The city comes to a standstill when there is a very heavy snowfall.

Last January a blizzard completely covered us in snow, and the day after I decided to walk around Union Square Park with my camera. :-)

First I took some shots from this higher POV, looking down at the park and also including some famous skyscrapers, such as the Empire State Building on the left. I have posted a couple of others photos from this POV in the past.

Afterwards, I actually went into the park, which had not been shoveled. There were a couple of narrow pathways leading inside, and after that I found myself trying to walk on huge piles of lumpy snow and ice. Needless to say, I was one of the few people enjoying Union Square on that day! I was rewarded with some nice surprises for my effort, though. Somebody had carved multiple snow sculptures on some of the benches. They were really excellent, and fun to see! :-)
