Photographer's Note
Today is 5 years since I signed up so here's my photo for that day.
There are supposed to be 50,000 gannets on the Bass Rock (who counted them I don't know). So that makes 10,000 for each year.
I'm sure you can see them all if you look carefully!!!
The white on the rock is a mixture of guano and gannets, plus there's another lot flying around the Bass. Those in the foreground are more ordinary gulls.
It would be nice if you would like to peruse my gallery, it's interesting that the one with most hits (from Prague) was one of naked ladies bathing - but it's not quite what you think: (Bathing beauties).
Anyways, here's to the tenth year.
Oh and yes I know the maths is dodgy, but it makes for a good title.

Hello Alastair,
Congratulations on your Five Years with TE!
During that time you have posted a fair few pictures of Scotland, especially coastal Scotland, each picture accompanied by an interesting and informative note.
This is no exception. You have managed this photograph extremely well, considering the length of lens required to fill the frame with this relatively small island from the shore. The clarity and saturation are superb with immense detail. Another very interesting and very informative note too.
All the best for the next half of the decade!
Best Wishes,
John.

I love the way that the flight of the gannets above the Bass Rock resembles spume, and the guano looks like a sharp frost - but not in July, unless North Berwick is suffering another ice age. The presence of the red sails creates an added interest on the horizon.
I remember, as a child, my Dad would often remark on the sounds of the foghorn from the Bass Rock. I'm becoming home-sick Alastair!
Here's tae the next 10 years.
Warm greetings, Amelia
