Photographer's Note

The Illini Union at the University of Illinois. The Union is made up of two almost duplicate buildings linked by short walkways. The north Union Building (on the left) was dedicated by Eleanor Roosevelt and ever since has served as the heart and "living room" of the university.

The fountain in the foreground is (or was) a favorite with students. When I attended in the 1980s, the water pressure was too high and the jet of water would splash between the legs of the statue. Naturally, the fountain earned the unofficial and ribald name "Eternal Douche." I see now that either they have turned off the water, or the fountain doesn't function any more. Too bad...
