Photographer's Note

'Waist Gunner' station on the B-17 bomber "Nine-o-Nine." These defensive guns would help to drive off the attacks of Axis fighters over the skies of Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific. By themselves, the guns are not effective, which is why the bombers would fly in special formations to maximize their defensive potential.

This is the second photo from the interior of the touring "Nine-o-Nine," one of the handful of airworthy B-17 "Flying Fortress" bombers that still remain today.

Sepia effects done for that 'historical effect' in Photoshop.
