Photographer's Note

I was wandering back country roads this morning amidst storm clouds gradually giving way to a summer sun, and I happened upon this quintessentially Midwestern scene.

Although our part of Wisconsin is best known for paper mills, it was once a bustling grain center, more famous than Minneapolis for flour mills at one time. Even today, it's still an important part of the Grain Belt.

I liked the wide swaths and contrasting bands of color that I saw, and the big blue silo in the distance, just beginning to be illuminated by the breaking light. I metered the clouds and bracketed the exposure until I got the desired settings.
