Photographer's Note

The lighthouse was built as decorative entrance to the harbor by the original private owner before
the Island became the property of The National Park Service. The lighthouse does not light and is not recognized as a marker by the Coast Guard and its existence is not reflected on any Coast Guard
maps or charts. When the private owner had a light installed in it, he did not see the harm in having a lighthouse on his island but it was snuffed out by the authorities as being a navigational hazard since
any mariner unfamiliar with the waterways could easily mistake it for another marker that was charted. This could easily happen in inclement weather and the Island's owner ended up with a really nice tower that looks like a lighthouse.
