Photographer's Note all the blasted PEOPLE!

I confess, I can be a curmudgeon, but mostly I'm not. Still, I am finished with the Austin City Limits Music Festival, and this foto shows why.

Actually, it doesn't show the PRECISE reason. The precise reason I am finished with this festival is that I have lost patience with the fan who for some reason thinks that it is socially acceptable to wait until the band starts, then "Excuse me" his (or her!) way forward to where the crowd is already quite dense, with people (like me!) who have planned ahead and staked out space to stand an hour or two ahead of time so that I have a decent view of the band, then decide that they have to stop RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME and stand with his/her heels on my toes. Can you feel me breathing on the back of your neck? Can you hear me clearing my throat? Can you somehow perceive that I'm thinking of setting your hair on fire? Do you know that all this negativity is completely ruining my enjoyment of seeing a legend like Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Willie Nelson, or, well, the list goes on and on. I just want to tap him/her on the shoulder and ask, "Who raised you?"

So 2012 will be the last ACL Fest I attend. This shot was from 2010. Slightly Stoopid was about to take the stage at the far end of the grounds, to be followed by Phish two hours later. (We were headed for a much smaller stage to see Bostich + Fussible of the Nortec Collective, who were FABULOUS!) There were about 70,000 people on 15 acres -- too many people, and too many of them lacked good manners.

Whew... I feel better now!
