Photographer's Note
I was on a cruise leaving from Whittier, AK and on our way out of port I was on deck taking as many photos as I could of the eerie fog and the way it clung to the mountains and hovered over the water. The building in the photo is The Inn At Whittier.
Would appreciate feedback on lighting and exposure. I was trying to match the gloomy, eerie feeling of the shot and to bring out the light reflection in the water, but not sure if I took it too far.
Whittier only has a little over 200 permanent residents (almost all of whom live in a single apartment style building in town), but more than 700,000 people visit it each year due to it being the main cruise port because of it's proximity to the Prince William Sound. The city itself, has a long historical heritage especially as a major US Army port beginning in WWII.
Interesting side note, there is only 1 way into and out of Whittier by land... thru the long Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel. The tunnel is the longest in North America at 2.5 miles and it only allows 1 way traffic so you have to wait for your side's turn to drive thru and shuts it down each day at a certain time depending on the time of year.

Hello Michelle,
Welcome to Trekearth! I really like the atmosphere in this photo. The fog is actually beautiful, and I like how it covers the hills in the background. The inn stands out nicely since the fog hasn't covered it at all. Personally, I would add a little bit of brightness. I made a workshop with some minor changes for you to compare your version with. I do like the moodiness of the original, though!

Hi Michelle. Welcome to this much less active site than it was when I joined. I like how you handled the exposure and composition, retaining or accentuating the eerie atmosphere created by the fog and the time of the day. The reflection of the lights make the image come alive by providing the phosphorescent accent in an otherwise gloomy colour scheme. Great spot for a Psycho3 remake. God forbid.Regards. Klaudio.

A very atmospheric capture, Michelle. It looks like the perfect setting for a (rather disturbing) movie scene. The reflection of the light on the lake is the finishing touch.
Good note too. Thanks for posting & welcome to TE!
