Photographer's Note

Painted Rock Petroglyph Site is is about 90 miles southwest of Phoenix, Arizona.

Over 40 petroglyph sites have been recorded in the area. Most of those sites are small in size. This Painted Rock site is the largest, with about 800 images. Unfortunately, due to wear & tear, visitors are asked to walk along the outer trail surrounding the rocks. Visitors no longer allowed to climb along the boulders.

Formerly a unit of the Arizona State Parks system, jurisdiction of Painted Rock Petroglyph Site reverted to the Bureau of Land Management in 1989.
