Photographer's Note

This is the start of a series of "The New Wave", a contorted sandstone area not far off highway US 89 and not far from the city of Page on the west side of the Glen Canyon Dam.

However, despite it being the start of the series, this photo is looking east, across the edge of the mesa on which Page sits, toward Tower Butte and Navajo Mountain. Telephoto compression makes it seem they're piled on top of each other, but the edge of the mesa is about 3/4s of a mile away, the butte 6 to 8 miles and the mountain at least 10. Providing a sense of scale, there are 4 people hiking the trail that's on the other side of the canyon from me.
