Photographer's Note

Windward Avenue, Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California.

I was a little disappointed that this skateboarder was just carrying his board in a responsible fashion: I expect he was returning from Venice Skate Park just back on the beach. Now if he'd been Bart Simpson...

This was shot in 2000 (I think). A return virtual visit on Google Maps just now shows that the paintwork of the pillars and wall is now much less whimsical: sober, even. It's now Big Daddy’s Poke Shack.

This is a candid grab shot - street photography - and thus for me would normally be in b/w, but you can see why I decided that colour was an important element here!

As ever with my older film photographs, the negative was scanned on a Nikon film scanner @ 4000 dpi. The original was Kodak print film.
