Photographer's Note

The last port of call on our Mexican vacation was San Diego, California.

In another life I lived there off and on for 8 years, from 1978 until 1986. I was a sailor, I served on three ships, went to some schools and actually taught school there for a time. San Diego is a different place these days!

We spent a few days there so we could enjoy the weather and explore a bit before heading back to St. Louis and the beginning of another cold, gray winter.

Of course, the morning the ship pulled in there was actually a little snow in San Diego...

However, the next day the weather was beautiful again and we got to spend enough time to wonder why we were leaving. We stayed downtown and took public transportation and went on the San Diego Trolley tour, we got a two day pass on that because it will drop you off at Coronado Island and a couple other places the public San Diego Trolley does not. We went to all the tourist spots and also visited the 32nd Street Naval Base, went to the PX and walked on a couple piers to see some ships. That was the first time I was on a Navy base since the day after I retired from the Navy.

Anyway, there were plenty of things to take pictures of, so I took plenty of pictures. This is one of my favorites, I like the color a lot and that reflected palm tree in the windshield. This was shot just outside the Santa Fe train station in downtown San Diego.

Have a great Sunday - I'm off to enjoy a little Mardi Gras action in Downtown St. Louis.

Someday I will return to San Diego for a longer stay.
