Photographer's Note
The scale of the Yosemite Valley can be hard to perceive from the valley floor. Even this shot, taken from Glacier Point nearly 5000 feet above the valley itself, gives only a partial impression. The spot in the trees at the center of the frame is the luxury Ahwahnee Hotel. Half Dome at the right center is some 4700 feet from base to peak and is a favorite objective for very expert rock climbers, although lesser souls can ascend the more sloping rear face.
