Photographer's Note
When you do Cottonwood Pass from the Gunnison Valley side the only way you reach the very top by car is over a dirt road which is very well kept but nevertheless a dirt road and somehow you feel like an adventurer the higher you get and the thinner the air becomes and when you reach the Pass on 12’126 ft it is almost like you hiked the Pass yourself and you feel sort of proud :) Going down to the Buena Vista paved side this is maybe more convenient but certainly less of an adventure but it had a reason that I wanted to return and this was for a. a hand cream I have seen in some hardware store (a bit sticky to be honest now that I am back in town and no longer exposed to the high altitude dryness … and yes I don’t work on a farm) and b. a Mexican restaurant that I liked.
I told you some photos before with my group_photo that when we reached the Pass we were not alone but rather with a huge group of boys and girls on their way to summer camp and my adventure had an abrupt end when I saw the bus loads but then I started to find their company quite funny and we enjoyed the view together and some came over asking where we came from and we shared ideas on 12’126 ft and this was kind of cute. Not much to be said about this shot. Some hikers, a cloud and nothing but blue somewhere before you reach the top before the other photo was taken.

Hi Barbara,
That is so strange with that one singular fluffy white cloud. I like the way it stands out against the super blue sky which in turn also contrasts so nicely with the white in the foreground. Nice point of view from below and the two hikers complete the image well.

Barbara,
I was just checking to see if you have a new post and didn't see anything, and I went to the gallery and here you are.
the people looks like they are walking on the cloud. It does looks like on top of the world. the satfire sky and that one cotton cloud hence the name Cottonwood Pass, the same cloud must have been there when they name this pass. Great timing for the documentary image. :)
Have a great evening.

hi Barbara,
"Cottonwood Pass" is a very fitting name for the place the way you have captured it, the people seem to be surrounded by puffy cotton and puffy clouds :) the minimalistic composition is very much your style, and I love the clear blue sky, you can get that colour only in higher altitudes. and funny how the clothes of the two people visible fit the colour palette of the photo, did you stage this shot and made them wear blue windbreakers? :)
with best regards,
Kristine

I always found that the blue seen at the top of the mountains is much better and beautiful than from below. It must be because we are very close to the sky!!! I like you minimalist approach and the inclusion of the people was absolutely necessary for the picture. Well done.

Did you imagine I would really enjoy that !?
Minimalist, mysterious, saturated, suggesting... A kind of extrem compo, troubling, moving, touching... Very well composed to have style and impact.

Hallo Barbara,
So you went all the way to Colorado to take pictures of snow... how about visiting Unterwasser some time this winter, great opportunities too ;-)))
This nice floating clouds adds extra highlights to the scene that could well be a Windows background. How much is 12000ft, about 4000m ?

Barbara,
Oddly pleasing minimalist shot which immediately put me in mind of my own Waiting Game.
I'm also embarassed to see that I cannot have read your original note for the "group photo" properly. I remember the shot, but somehow assumed had assumed - mountains and all - that it was in Switzerland!

GREAT SHOT, BABA FLIES!
We were right up here! And going down the other way, to Taylor Lake and the ghost town of Tin Cup...
I stepped out of the car wearing flip-flops, shorts and a sleeveless shirt, Budweiser in one hand a cigarette in the other... totally horrifying to the eyes of several bystanders wearing wind-jackets and what not... I put on my hiking shoes to do a little walking around, though...
This wonderful minimal shot of yours just brought up some recent & unforgettable memories, THANK YOU!!!
Have a great evening. I'll see ya soon,
Fulvio.

A great graphic composition, Barbara. That cloud looks like a piece of the snow below that broke off and floated away, like an iceberg. It's nice to have the people in there for some scale. Ideally the people would be fully visible, not just their top halves, but there's not much you could do about that... You seem to have an affinity for blue and white, and this shows off those colors beautifully. Regards, Ken.

hello barbara
a very nice minimalisc treat, this one. love that rascal-cloud and the deep, vivid blue... wish the cloud was more towards the right top corner, but who can order the clouds, right? and the compo would have been too balanced then anyway. it sure is more fun this way. :)
warm regards,

Hi Barbara,
This is what I wished for on the previous one. More natural elements, but keeping minimalism. Cotton cloud on Cottonwood Pass. Tone of blue is great!
On what level was to valley floor? I ask to get idea of the climb.

Hello Barbara.
Very simple and very nice.
The snow is perhaps a little bit overexposed but it doesn't matter.
Really well done.
Kind regards.

Hallo Barbera,

Super !!!

Hi Barbara,
this is really wonderful. I love the two little people and the beautiful sky with that single cloud. The white on the bottom is interesting, I wouldn't have dared it myself, but I like it!
Was the hand cream and the mexican dinner worth "boring" the way? ;-)
Looking forward to your next post! Take care!

Hi Barbara,
So minimal and so attractive! Excellent contrast and interesting composition, I would probably clone out that little cloud close to the left edge to maximize impact.
Well observed and taken,

Baba ;-)
I saw your latest one and while i had a big smile because of the note and was typing very funny words you removed it...what a shame, because i had all the words at the right place to say anything about woman and their needs ;-)))))
But oh well, maybe we see it back one of these days...
You know i like clouds, the bigger the better, so i like this one also, but also because of that well though composition, brings a complete new pov on the cloud and the snow were the people are just minot but important...
Take care and have a nice day, Henk

Hi Barbara,
Very artistic work with the whiteness of the puffy cloud and the snowbank (?) separated by the thin wedge of earth and the two pilgrims against the bluest of skies.

Hello Barbara
Eyes go straight to the single cotton cloud hanging in the clear blue sky. An amazing exhibition of minimalism (& I consider you an expert there)...the two people in the thinnest of wafer green land & the white snow layer in the FG. Excellent indeed!

Pure minimalism with a stroke of geniality. The two white with the snow and the cloud with complete textures and the little stripe with the two person walking (or floating) is great.

Amazing cotton flock flying over cottonwood pass. Good you left some white snow in the lower part to balance this scandalous blue sky.
Tres bien vu.

I think if you had just a blue sky and this cloud it would have been a joy to watch but I really do like the snow and people included. That cloud is just super and the colours are to my taste. Well done and regards
