Photographer's Note
Two jagged peaks tower above this remote alpine lake in the Needles Range of the San Juan Mountains - June.
Interestingly, there's a sign at the lake that states: "Most of the land surrounding Emerald Lake is private... The owners of this land allow the public to use Emerald Lake. Occasionally the owners will land a helicopter on their property. If you respect their legal right to do so, the public can continue to use and enjoy Emerald Lake."

Wow, Jack!
The sharpness here is what is so appealing to me, aside from the fact that it is an incredible image to behold. Perfect lighting and POV, too. Excellent work!

Hey, Jack.
Holy cow! I had to look at this shot several times to believe it. If the photo can take your breath away, what must the real thing be like?? You have certainly done it justice. Everything is sensational. The color, DOF, detail, the light. This one is unreal. Wow... Kindest regards,
Shelly

Jack, this is an incredible image but I have to say that the way you record them is even more so. The depth of greens alone is so stand out that it shows in the thumbnail. The clearity and crisp focus your web site talks to is obvious, great capture.

Wow! man, this shot took some work to get right. I have shot enough 4x5 to know this was great skill or greater luck exposure wise. Very well composed with excellent (of course) level of detail. Hats off for the effort and thanks for sharing.
Consequently, how do you deal with taking film through security on flights. Besides being a clutz at developing sheet film in B&W, I moved to 6x9 range finders because the film can be safely hand inspected at security.

Great view. Incredible image. It's just so sharp and detailed. The result of the mid format with alot of skill. Perfect colors and composition. The sky, mountains in the background, differing shades of green and reddish runoff running through them make this a really nice looking photo. Just a great looking shot.
Great work.

Hi Jack,
Seeing the thumbnail i knew directly it was a kind of Velvia picture. Although i never used the 100 serie i still see the deep colours and high contrast from that beautiful film. Your pov is breathtaking with an enormous depth. You have a very good eye in seeing such landscapes...impressive..!!!
The 4x5 brought you a lot of sharpness and detail, although scanning must be a hard job, the final result is very good.
I have a Velvia 50 from San Juan, but from a different location and complete different weather.
Have a nice weekend, Henk

What a spectacular view you have here. It is simply magnificent and do not have more words of praise. I am finding very interesting to see the water streams discharging all the clay into the lake. As a geologist, it will be very nice to observe the actual sedimentation process going on there. Well done.

Hello Jack! I have just returned from this area some weeks ago so I had to open this one. I always find it quite impressive what comes out if people see the same thing but obviously with different eyes. It came out really beautiful. Your colors are very strong and special too. I like it. Have a great weekend, Barbara.

Hi Jack;
Very clear and sharp. Good colors too. I like it. Personally would crop a little on the bottom - to the white point in the grass on the left.
Cheers;

Hello Jack,
the colours and the sharpness of your image are realy amazing!!!
You can realy see the big format of your slide. The quality of 4x5" is more than 1000 times better than any digital toy!
Thanks for sharing such an amazing picture.

Hello Jack,

Hi Jack,
All I gotta say is...Wow. Simply breathtaking. I can't imagine what it was like being there. Is it hard to get in here, in the summer? Your composition is very pleasing here, with diagonals on almost every side, the lake in the middle and those magnificent peaks in the back. And that sky is icing on the cake! Thank you for sharing this stunningly captured image.

A lovely landscape very well captured technicaly, with nice tone of green and blue. The composition is simple but effective. I just think the light is a bit hard, it should be much impressive with a morning light but it's just my opinion!
