Photographer's Note
This is a view from Green River Overlook in the Islands in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park near Moab, Utah.
This picture was shot from atop a Mesa near Dead Horse Point. The "scale" of this country is unbelievable! Rising to an elevation of around 12,000 feet, in the distance are the La Sal Mountains, 30-40 miles away.
The flat area toward the bottom of this picture is possibly 800-1000 feet below where I am standing. The Green River Canyon is another similar depth.

Very nice shot, The mountains in the background are awesome. Although the sand is too red, IMHO

those would be the LaSal Mountains. they get quite high. nice shot!

great depth in this picture. You can really see for miles I guess 30 or 40 mile like you said and the canyon is so deep you can barely see the bottom.The colors are good showing the sand and the blue sky. good Photo. TFS
